Apple Cinnamon Porridge

Nothing says Winter morning like Apple Cinnamon Porridge.  Like Grandma says, "It will stick to your ribs!"  Quick recipe that will send the kids off to school with a full belly.

The taste of apples and cinnamon make this an easy-sell to the kids!

Apple Cinnamon Porridge

Ingredients

  • Serves 4 people

  • 2 cups of rolled oats

  • 2 1/2 cups of water (2.5 cups)

  • 1 cup of milk

  • 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce

  • 1 tbsp of cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp of salt    

Instructions

  1. Pour 2 1/2 cups of water and 1/4 tsp of salt to a medium sized saucepan and bring to a boil reduce from high to medium temperature

  2. Add in the 2 cups of rolled oats and stir quickly for a few minutes until the oats and water mixture starts to bubble 

  3. Add in 1/2 cup of milk or more depending on the consistency your family prefers and cook for 5 minutes on medium to low, stirring often

  4. Pour in 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce and stir to blend, cook for 2-3 minutes on low and stir in 1 tbsp of cinnamon 

  5. Serve in bowls and sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on the top before serving with a dish of brown sugar to add to the porridge
