Calgary
When we landed at the airport with our four suitcases, two kids and two cats, I looked everywhere for cowboy hats but only the greeters at the airport were wearing them, their official white stetsons. Only the police wear the black stetsons. The locals seem to save their hats for the days when the Stampede runs.
Festivals abound in Calgary. From the Lilac Festival on 4th Street to the fireworks at Globalfest you will always have something to do in Calgary! The festivals provide lively entertainment and huge line ups for food trucks so pack some snacks to take with you if you have kids! Downtown Calgary is a never-ending party!
The dome inside The Chinese Cultural Centre is gorgeous!
The Devonian Gardens on the top floor of The Core, a shopping behemoth, are a lovely spot to take your lunch break.
Stephen Avenue is our favorite urban stroll to date. You can spend an entire day and night in this section of the downtown core and be busy the entire time either strolling around, shopping, eating or being entertained. There is almost always some form of entertainment happening along Stephen Avenue.
Calgary shows it's true charm during Stampede! Shop windows everywhere are decorated, free pancake breakfasts are made across the city and everyone dons their cowboy hats!
Stroll through the "Eau Claire" part of downtown to catch a movie or a large variety of food trucks and buskers. Close to Prince's Island park!
The Peace Bridge was less than a 10 minute walk from home for us!
35 Floors into the sky overlooking downtown Calgary. We were a 2 minute walk to the C Train which is free to anyone travelling just in the downtown core. This provided an amazing aerial view of the Calgary Stampede parade each year which ran right by the apartment.
