Respect is Burning Supper Club is located in downtown Sudbury. Rob took me there for one of our date nights on a Saturday. We arrived fairly early before the dinner rush and were seated at a cozy table for two. The tables are covered in red checkered cloths. Candles flicker low lending a romantic atmosphere at least until the horde of diners descends.
I ordered the ravioli and was pleased with the fair portion that was served. The server was friendly and not intrusive. We enjoyed good conversation, mellow red wine and the food was delicioso!
I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Go early or book ahead to get a table! We went back two more times and were very pleased with our meals each time.
Gloria's Restaurant is a family diner that the locals all know about and keep to themselves. It's been around for over 50 years! It is located in Sudbury on Bouchard, tucked into a small plaza with Home Hardware. They are attached to a convenience store as well so you can pick up your morning paper while walking through to the restaurant.
The eggs benny is good but the eggs and bacon combos are my fave.
Rob & I would often dine here in the morning before heading out to hit local garage sales. Check out the opening hours. They are open very early and have customers waiting at the doors!
Little Pizza Shop at the Walden Plaza in Lively makes my favourite pizza in the area. Seriously, I am picky about my pizza. I tried every pizza in the Sudbury area and nothing can compare to their pizza perfection. The exact balance of sauce to cheese to topping ratio is important. Order ahead and pick your pizza up straight out of the oven. We'd finish work on a hot day and go home and place an order which we then picked up on the way to the beach. Pizza picnics at First Beach were great!
Golden Palace Restaurant in Lively, Ontario excels in the best Chinese food take-out delivery department! I highly recommend their beef and broccoli and their deep fried chicken wings. Delivery is quick and their dishes always merit an A+ in taste.
The restaurant is located at the Red Carpet Inn. The staff are very friendly and the takeout is perfection!
Portion sizes are more than fair and you can feed a small crew for $50-$70 and still have leftovers.
It comes as no surprise that this restaurant was the winner of the Sudbury Star's 2018 Peoples' Choice Awards for the "Best Chinese Food Restaurant".
I have yet to find Chinese food here in Vancouver that can compare to the perfection of this restaurant's fare. Congrats on the award, it is well deserved!
Wacky Wings in Sudbury is a great family restaurant by day and a hot spot in the evening for grown up fun. The kids love the bucket of wings and the arcade games. Beth attended a great birthday party here. Rob and I spent warm summer evenings sitting out on the patio sipping drinks and enjoying the weather.
I love their caramel apple crumble. Servers grin when they deliver the huge beer dispensers that you can order for your table. Try the blueberry frohito!

Kelsey's Original Roadhouse at the Calgary International Airport makes the best cheeseburger in town! We were in Calgary for a year and a half and the best burger is still the first one I that I ate when I got there. Nothing compared to the juicy and tasty grilled perfection of that cheeseburger.
I was determined to find the best burger and we tried several. You would think that in the province with a ton of "cattle associations" that I could find a burger to rave over. I found one place. Lots of restaurants do this strange version of a burger that included chipped beef. It must be an acquired taste.
Milestones located on Stephen Avenue gets a big "thumbs up" because their eggs benny is the best I've ever eaten! Sarah and I loved the mini-dessert shooters that we'd share. Huge calorie count! Weekend brunch is almost mandatory in downtown Calgary and there are many places serving this need just along Stephen Avenue, alone.
Be prepared to wait in line. Breakfast/Brunch at Milestones is worth the wait and its great to stroll off brunch by touring around Stephen Avenue or by walking over to the Downtown Calgary Library which is very close.
Poco Loco Pizza on 4th Ave. S.W. in Calgary has the most impressive calzones! I'll skip pizza for a great calzone and Poco Loco delivers the goods!
You can also stop by the restaurant and enjoy a pint or two while devouring your calzone. The calzone is stuffed full of cheese and pepperoni and ham or order whatever you want inside. Either way, any topping they use is going to be great! This place knows how to make a good size calzone at a fair price!
Crave Cookies and Cupcakes is taking the 5th spot on this list over some fine fancy restaurants because my sweet tooth cannot be denied. This sweet shop makes amazing, sinfully sweet and expensive gingerbread eggnog cupcakes that are irresistible!
Beth and I bought a dozen of these cupcakes and found ourselves looking for reasons to shop in the Kensington area of Calgary just so we had an excuse to be near their store. We'd sneak there for a small treat just for ourselves.
Everything is beautifully packaged and makes a wonderful hostess gift. Just don't be too tempted to eat them before you gift them!
Moxie's Grill and Bar on 7th Avenue in Calgary is not my favourite restaurant. I have to include this in my list because the one dish that I will put up with lousy service for is cheesecake and not just any old cheesecake, either.
Moxie's makes this salted caramel & pecan cheesecake that is a cheesecake lover's nirvana. Sarah and I would go just for the cheesecake and stay for an hour to slowly savour each forkful of this ambrosia!
You could tell it annoyed the wait staff that we only came for dessert ...lets just say they got their "just desserts".

The Fish Counter Stroll along Main St. Vancouver, and by stroll I mean hike up hill, to check out the antique stores and have lunch.
The Fish Counter is by far the best spot to have a quick fish and chip meal. The place was still packed solid at 2 pm and they basically have standing room only to eat and a couple of benches which were taken but you can tell why the place is packed from the first bite that you take. Crispy batter, fresh halibut perfect fries and crunchy slaw...all awesome! It's a bit frustrating to find a spot to sit but well worth the struggle.

A word to the wise regarding the old-fashioned lemonade that can be purchased. Be prepared for bitterness. This lemonade is the most bitter tasting drink that I have ever experienced. I waited to see what the husband's reaction was going to be to the taste. I suppose I could have given him a warning but it was far more fun watching the shock on his face.
Coastal Cookery in downtown Powell River is not to be missed. I am always on the hunt for the perfect burger and the "Mike's Meaty Backyard Burger" delivers on the menu promise of six ounce grilled beef perfection. Smoked bacon and garlic aioli along with cheddar cheese and dijon mustard ( I skipped the onions) rested temptingly in a brioche bun.
I rather inelegantly fawned all over the very friendly wait staff telling them how much I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and that was before I greedily scoffed down the S'mores Smash.
Move over cheesecake, there is a new dessert in town! Vanilla gelato, cinnamon graham cracker, chocolate ganache and marshmallow brulee. I died and went to dessert heaven.
If you have to take a ferry or two to get to Powell River then this restaurant's offerings makes the journey worth the fare! Definite temptation...the Coconut Curry Lentil Soup....next time...
Costa Del Sol Latin Restaurant in Powell River across the street from Coastal Cookery and operated by the same owners is a casual and trendy little locale to enjoy some Latin music and tacos. An intimate spot for you and some friends or a special someone to sit back and enjoy homemade Mexican tortilla soup and Enchiladas de Pollo. A great girls' night out for the ladies!
Kanadell Japanese Bakery is owned by Chef Keiko Nakanishi. Today, a lovely spring day in Burnaby, we headed out to check out the Burnaby Farmer's Market which runs from early spring until late in the fall. I was enticed by the sweet bear faces on Keiko's Mini Chocolate Cream Filled Bread and purchased two of her creations. Simply divine!
These buns are sweet to look at and sweet to eat. These would make a fantastic addition to any afternoon tea or as a treat for your kids. Order from Kanadell online and pick up at the Burnaby Farmer's Market on a Saturday. A perfect little treat that made our first visit to the market just right!
