Our Home is starting to come together!
After each move we have to rebuild our home. Sleeping on air mattresses for the first few days is rough but we get new beds into each place, quickly, then head out to garage sales to buy what we need. It sounds tough but it is half the adventure!
Garage sales, second hand stores, Craigslist, Kijiji and auctions are necessary resources when you are travelling from province to province as cheap as possible!
Armoire: Craigslist $250.00 plus $50 delivery
Cragslist find! Mint condition and purchased by the prior owner on her trip to Okinawa, Japan. My cost $150 for two screens delivered to me directly...a great deal!! Looks fab in the living room!
Korean floor lamp $100 second hand store
A coffee grinder manufactured by Armin Trosser in the late 1940s, the bottom is stamped "Made in West Germany British Zone". The British Zone portion signifies that it was made somewhere between 1945-49, is going to make a nice vintage home decor item...because we do not drink coffee.
Table & Chairs-Craigslist $300 delivered
An offset lithograph vintage fine art print reproduction of Sakinaw Lake by Peter and Traudl Markgraf, paid $10 and it sold at an art gallery in the same area as the church last year for $55 not framed
Danish Modern Egg Cups - Retro Plastic Ware. Vintage 1950s $3
Sheffield Knives and Forks. I have been looking for a full set of 8 of each of these for years! I found this mint set in a plastic bag at a garage sale and nearly fainted when I saw the price....$3!! That's it! I paid for these precious items and ran! Start the car...start the car (a little Ikea commercial reference :)
Entryway Table and ladder $10 Scores! Perfect for the outdoor garden!
GloHill Bakelite Chrome Metal Server paid $3 approx. value between $45-$50
My estate sale tote...a savior and still in mint condition on the inside. The outside needed a little work and a whole lot of elbow grease! Circa 1960's
We went to our first auction in Sudbury and we are hooked on the excitement of bidding and winning! We have become die-hard pickers. Rob may be a bit more serious about it than me. He never missed a Saturday unless he had to work that day. Heavens forbid that I not feel like going because of six feet of snow! Rob would flick the bedroom lights off and on or steal my covers to get me up at 6 am just to go out for breakfast and treasure hunting. Rob says it is just like Christmas morning every Saturday.
