Thank You

Travelling and relocating with pets has it's drawbacks. Each time we have moved we have had to look at getting our two cats licensed or registered, fees which cost us a  total of $36 in Calgary and $24 in Vancouver, this is less than half of what we would have had to pay if the cats were not spayed and neutered. There is the suggestion also of getting them micro chipped but our cats never go outside.

Two crates that adhere to the airlines size requirements had to be purchased, another $120 for those and two new cat beds at the apartment, add on the additional expense of dishes for food and water and a new cat litter box, cat litter and scoop and conservatively we are now at $200.00. The airplane rides for two cats costed an additional $110 if they go in cargo, which we advise.   You are allowed to bring pets on the flight with you for no cost as long as they are kept in their crate under your seat.  There is not enough room for the cats crates to fit properly under the airline seats and I know the cats would cry loudly until let out of their crates, if they thought any of us could be badgered into letting them out.  The new total is $310.00, but we are not done there.

There is also the"one time only pet fee" required by landlords in both Alberta and British Columbia  which was an expense that came as a surprise.   That "one time fee" in Alberta cost us $300 for the two cats and in British Columbia you pay the equivalent of half a month's rent and those fees are not reimbursed if your cat does any damage to the premises, so an extra $900. and now to move from Alberta to British Columbia with cats just cost a total of $1,210.00, conservatively.

Despite the obvious cons of cat ownership we have enjoyed Milo and Bella's companionship on our travels.   The cats are a great  source of entertainment  but are much appreciated during that time period of first moving in and getting the all important internet connection.

Cats are known for expecting a certain level of comfort and spoiling.  Our Milo and Bella are no exception to this rule.  When we first moved from Calgary to Vancouver, Milo, was not too pleased that his bed had not been packed into a suitcase.

No one was happy to spend our first night in Vancouver sleeping on the floor.  We had to go buy beds but it was a Sunday and that first night was tough. Milo had decided that the floor was unacceptable and had turned my purse into his own bed.  Gingers are really very smart cats.

I really should not have been surprised at Milo's ingenuity.  When we lived in Calgary, Milo & Bella had no problem finding more comfortable spots for themselves.  On one of the hottest days in the summer these two found their own way to beat the heat.

Milo & Bella have developed an amazing capacity for travel.  They are so used to flying now that when we moved from Calgary to Vancouver they did not even cry, a huge change from their first flight where we could hear them yowling from the pet cargo pick up spot until we reached them to console them.
