Are you just that little bit different than most of the people that you know? Do you spend countless hours daydreaming about what you would do if you had more money or less responsibilities? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to just pack up and go somewhere completely different? I did. I wondered all of the time about "what might have been" and "if only I had" type of questions.
I have come to realize that I am always going to daydream and wonder about what is coming, what may be and what may never happen. It's my lot in life to question everything. I am by nature a very curious person. I am curious about people, places, ideas, the past and the future.
I think that without curiosity there is nothing to dream about or wish for. We work hard to achieve our goals. The most important thing to have, other then basic life necessities, is difficult to hold on to, indefinitely. We all want that element of happiness in our lives.
I've made it my mission to be happy. Not everyone is always blissfully happy. Bliss is an exalted state of happiness and an unrealistic state to be in 24/7. I think happiness is achieved by being true to yourself and to your passions. If you have achieved bliss at any point in your life then you have a pretty clear idea of what set of circumstances makes you the happiest.
Are you someone that wants a lot of things in your life or would you be happy with just the basics? Good health is obviously the most important thing one can have. Love & companionship is as important to us as the air we breathe. As children we are asked, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Most kids reply with an unrealistic career choice. My reply has never changed. I want to be happy.
Creating the environment to achieve bliss is what brings a state of content and happiness into your life. We are always learning, finding new ways to grow and become more proficient in all aspects of our lives and yet many people neglect the most important area, themselves. I am not referring to our physical self. Plenty of people work very hard at achieving physical and intellectual perfection.
If I asked you now what makes you the happiest what would you say?
Did you mention anyone other than yourself, first? You should be first on the list.
I forgot my life goal of happiness by putting everyone before me. Is it selfish to put yourself first? Yes! Be selfish! If you are not happy then no one in your life is happy with you. If they are fine, they may selfishly be allowing you to be last on the list. Maybe they are last too?
So, let's look at how to achieve happiness.
Achieving Happiness
Who are you?
I'm asking you to define who you are not by who you are living with or by what you own or by what you do for a living.
What are you curious about?
When you see yourself standing anywhere in the world, smiling, where are you?
Now, move.
Where are you, this time?
Now, strip down to nothing.
Happy? No? Change the physical or accept it and make the most of it, until you do you will not be happy.
Now you are dressed in whatever formal outfit you wish. Happy with your choice?
Change.
What are you now wearing? Is it you? Keep only surface items that make you comfortable.
Other people's opinions are like clothes. Accept only what makes you comfortable. You will not be happy wearing what anyone else wishes for you.
I have found the book of your life. All that has come before are previous chapters, I am going to pick up my pen and start writing. What do you want me to write as the first sentence?
Think for a moment.
If you really believe that anyone other than you should be the author of the rest of your life then you have to take control of your happiness and stop letting anyone else make your decisions.
Question, everything.
Explore, your dreams.
Imagine, that anything is possible.
Dream, always.
Happiness is yours for the taking, so take control of your life.
